Most business owners assume that having a website is enough. It is not. A slow, confusing or dated website actively pushes customers toward your competitors, and the worst part is that it happens silently — nobody emails you to say they left.
1. It takes more than three seconds to load
Every additional second of load time measurably reduces the number of visitors who stay. Oversized images are the usual culprit, followed by bloated plugins and cheap hosting.
2. It does not work properly on a phone
The majority of visitors to a typical small business site arrive on a mobile device. If they have to pinch and zoom to read your prices, they will simply leave.
3. Visitors cannot tell what you actually do
A visitor should understand your offer within a few seconds of landing. Vague headlines like "Solutions for tomorrow" tell them nothing.
4. There is no obvious next step
Every page needs a clear call to action — call, book, enquire, buy. If a visitor has to hunt for your contact details, most will not bother.
5. It has not been updated in years
Outdated copyright dates, old pricing and broken links all signal one thing to a customer: this business may not still be operating.
Where to start
Fix speed and mobile first, because they affect every visitor. Then clarify your message and add a single, obvious call to action to each page. If you would like an honest assessment of where your site stands, get in touch and we will take a look.
